My childhood was traumatic, sad,

and the traumatic side of it

in 1941, which was

I was born in Liverpool.

We lived in the centre of Liverpool,

being bombed pretty much nightly

by the German Luftwaffe.

After a couple of years my family

which was also being bombed.

So my earliest memories

My actual earliest memory is

I was about 3 years old, I guess,

guided bombs, and the funny

they made a funny noise,

it meant the bomb was pretty much

and was coming downwards.

And at that point, we as a family,

which was the most solid bit of furniture

and we would wait for the huge bang

I can remember one night when,

and the following day

and seeing a house a little bit further

which had been demolished.

So those are my memories,

London Underground overnight.

Those are my earliest memories,

The trauma and the sadness

in at that stage because, pardon me,

when everybody was cheering and

my parents had a huge row

My mother left and I never saw or

A year after that,

I developed a,

which took me into

and in an isolation hospital with no

with other children and

unconscious for most of

So very sad, very traumatic,

was ill, in hospital,

into care by the London County Council.

And shortly after that, my father died.

So the London County Council

for the next 10 years,

I reached my 18th birthday,

when my childhood ceased

And at that point,
