Anthropometrics

Transcript

So we do have so I mentioned sort of mass

That's the current issues of the,

that we've got, because that that's

that is what we're sort of trying

So we know that those are issues

with the current kit

Urination.

And another area that is needs to be

So the cockpits are often designed

And when, you know,

that was the average population for

But currently, you know, we have a wide

The average male from decades ago

is no longer the average male,

And they equipment and the cockpit

has been designed around the average male.

So we need to make sure that

actually who is going to be flying this

And try and predict those and understand

how we can support them.

Because at the end of the day,

they're not going to be considered

Things

and they're going

They're going to have to compromise,

it's stuff like, you know, Rich, my

manager always goes on about

in the aircraft,

you know, where do you put your drinks,

And because space is a commodity,

thought about that, which means, you know,

and then you get sort of like pressure

And it's just thinking

and trying to, understand

And not just the jet.

So I'm always an advocate for the,

It's, we have, a lot of data

measurements comes from the military

you know, the size weight of,

So it's very difficult

But military data

often, the

cockpits and the equipment is designed

So that means that,

to, people who have,

measurements arms, legs, torso,

weight of some people down.

So it includes sort of the 90%

So you will have people who fall off

that are too small,

And what we're finding

particularly the training aircraft,

the restrictions that they've got,

So, men will have a longer arm

and it's doing some research

recently looking at the current

I think it was about 2007,

if you were to look at the pilot

the arm reach, because you do have to have

anthropometric restrictions

You exclude something like 60%

simply because their arms are too short

So, yeah, it's quite staggering how

much a restriction we can place on people

got into the jet.

You know, you can't physically fly.

They could be a fantastic pilot.

But our jets aren't designed around them
