I do remember
vividly in Glasgow, hearing about D Day,
because when we were having coffee,
The second front has started.
That's what we call it.
So second front has started.
And we cheered like mad.
Oh, God, thank you.
Because the Russians had been critical
of us for so long and saying,
why don't you fight in Europe?
You can't do anything.
Here we are fighting
Why don't you do it on your half?
But, of course, wisely.
Well, the Americans had come in and we
we did take that awful step.
A brilliant step, but an awful step.
And I remember that day, we cheered.
And then we soon heard about the
cost and the casualties and so on.
