The training was quite thorough.
Again, the marching,
I was often the right marker, and I
really enjoyed the importance of that.
We learnt, again, first aid.
We learnt things about the WAF, about
officer and non-commissioned officers,
the idea of discipline and of serving,
It was really quite an interesting thing.
The highlight of it was
an intelligence test, an aptitude test,
the Raven's test, which I
And as a result of that,
in the corner,
After that, I was told that I
I could not believe it because I had done
at school, only biology.
And not very detailed as that.
So a wireless mechanic it was.
And very soon, I was sent to Glasgow,
Glasgow, and to the
Royal Technical College and to part
course in physics and radio
and also metal work, where we had to learn
own plugs and our screwdrivers and things
like that, should we ever be
It was a very intense course indeed.
So much so that at one time
we were taken,
we were taken on a wonderful
of Scotland, as far as
I saw the beautiful purple-headed
mountains and the river and
ships which we passed in the Clyde.
It was an adventure that I much enjoyed.
