Play / pause The 63rd and 54th Entry

Transcript

Well, following my talk with the Padre

Wing Commander, retired Mike Hines,

And top boy.

And I knew he'd gone into stained glass window

he built the 63rd entry window,

which he did hence of 63 on this window.

And this also shows

Every entry.

every apprentice wore that badge

indicating that we were apprentices

from 1949 to 1952.

That was the legnth of our course.

Most importantly,

to be inspected and

And this was the first color

Her Majesty, her Majesty presented to,

And that crown indicates

There’s the color.

And that's the color she presented there.

That's unique.

That's the first color

She presented her

in 1951

As Princess Elizabeth as she was then but as queen

She gave us that color

and we the only entry to be reviewed

Well, 54th entry graduated in early

or late September 1949,

myarrived at the beginning of September,

at the back of the graduation parade

and we watched it.

So they had a marvelous parade,

And, when they graduated,

they marched off the square

the band playing, holding their rifles,

And as they stepped off the square

and all together fired, a blank

and yeah, our junior entry

just 15 and 16 year olds

We can't wait to do that.

Well, I've got to tell you, it was totally

And they all got put in the guard room

to graduate with no pay before

So we're sort of like,

But, you know, window,

with those guns firing there,

It's a pity

It's a brilliant window,

they were the first entry

That rank indicates

from all four corners of the country.

Daffodil, leeks Wales,

Scotland and Ireland all indicated here.

And they were trained initially,

which went out of service

And the meteor was introduced

the first entry to start

I think that completes that window
