I joined up in 28th of April, 1999.

I was 17 years old.

Moved out when I was 17, joined the regiment.

And I went to RAF Halton for a couple of days,

and them moved on to RAF Huntingdon,

where the regiment do all their training.

I'd done 26-week training course.

That there was 43 of us that started the course,

and then there was 13 of us that passed

at the end of the course.

I was quite skinny and quite weak back then.

So at the end, there was a lot of physical exercise.

There was a lot to take in regarding the drill

and weapons and every bit of training going.

And there was some very tough corporals

on the course back then.

They was pushing us through it, obviously,

to get the best of our ability,

and so they can push us through.

Yeah, there was a lot of trench digging,

digging shell scrapes.

A lot of exercises outside in the field.
