I think there's perhaps
a simplistic analogy with the Marines.
The RAF Regiment was formed as
It's got a separate Royal Warrant, it has
have the right to have standards.
So there's always been a distinctiveness
I don't want to overstate it.
We are
that's the service we joined and that's
protecting and supporting.
But we are,
other part of the Air Force.
We're probably a little bit more military
We might touch on it later.
Military discipline and ground combat
The Air Force has long had, I suppose,
from the other services,
old fashioned, a little less rigid,
And if you look at the performance
it's never done it any harm.
But the RAF ration has always
So,
front line, we're responsible for training
to be able to fight
We provide the people for the now
So there's always been something a little
As I say, I don't want to do any injustice
because I'm, I'm an Air Force officer.
But the RAF Regiment has always been
that's celebrated as well.
There's always been banter,
you know, our nickname is Rock Apes.
There's always been a bit of, sort of,
hopefully friendly rivalry between,
But we're all the same in the end.
When I talk about an RAF Regiment squadron
trying to keep the enemy at arm's length.
And another role of the Irish Regiment is
in its complete sense.
And to that we try and achieve
So the outermost part of the
And then as you move in towards the edge
it's other members of the Air Force
to handle a weapon or whatever.
There's also the Irish Police providing
the sort of force protection on the base
So you have to be, you know,
then you have to be able to cope
to recuperate afterwards and get
up and running as soon as possible.
And we coordinate all that.
And of course, that's not
I mentioned the police.
There's also explosive ordnance disposal,
If you've got holds in one way,
There's air defence,
and there's a whole host of others
for an airfield to defend itself,
prepared to defend itself.
What we call passive defence,
concealment, deception measures.
If the enemy do get through,
they're supposed to be attacking.
And then if you do suffer an attack,
And we do all of that.
And that does involve working with pretty
So
bit distinct when we operate,
with the rest of the Air Force.
It's a team of teams.
