Play / pause Flying the Hawk

Flying the Hawk

  • Ed Smith
  • Interview by: Ewan Burnett

Transcript

The Hawk was a brand new airplane

when we flew the Hawk,

and that was a very good airplane, lovely airplane to fly.

It was a different level of performance

from the Jet Provost.

And we (chuckles) specialized in finding out

how much we could do with it

when we had our solo training flights.

Racing around the island, Anglesey Island was the favorite.

We got up to coming home bragging

about how fast we managed to make the Hawk fly.

And yet it still felt as though we were

nibbling at the edges of our ability.

We felt, I felt a bit vulnerable

to things that could go wrong, I don't know why.
