Following the end of the 1991 Gulf War, two no-fly zones were policed by coalition aircraft to protect minority populations in Iraq and to oversee Iraqi compliance with UN resolutions. From 1991 to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 RAF aircraft policed these no-fly zones alongside coalition partners. Policing the no-fly zones was not as benign as it sounds as Flight Lieutenant Mandy Hickson recalls during the last flight of a tour with 2 Squadron.
